Role: Senior UNIX / AWS Systems Engineer (Level III) Location: Remote Duration: 12+ Months Contract Client: Healthcare Insurance Industry Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Senior UNIX / AWS Systems Engineer to provide advanced operational support, administration, and engineering for enterprise UNIX and cloud environments. This role is responsible for maintaining high availability production systems, supporting complex infrastructure initiatives, and providing 24x7x365 operational support across multiple environments and locations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in UNIX/Linux systems administration, AWS cloud technologies, enterprise storage solutions, automation, and infrastructure support within large-scale enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Systems Support

  • Provide advanced Level III operational, deployment, and production support for UNIX and AWS environments.
  • Administer and maintain enterprise UNIX systems including IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, and Linux distributions such as RedHat, SUSE, and CentOS.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex infrastructure and system issues across enterprise environments.
  • Support high availability, mission-critical systems requiring rapid response and resolution.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and provide after-hours/weekend support as needed.

Cloud & Automation

  • Support and administer AWS infrastructure including:
  • EC2
  • S3
  • Lambda
  • CloudFormation
  • AWS Storage Gateway
  • CloudTrail
  • AWS Cognito
  • RedShift
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions and automation processes.
  • Create and maintain shell scripts and Python-based automation tools.

Enterprise Systems Administration

  • Manage enterprise storage and backup technologies including SAN/NAS environments.
  • Configure and support clustering technologies including Veritas and RedHat clustering solutions.
  • Administer enterprise authentication and directory services including LDAP/OpenLDAP.
  • Support enterprise backup and recovery solutions such as IBM TSM.
  • Maintain and support Apache web servers, mail services, DNS, NFS, SAMBA, and related services.

Engineering & Project Support

  • Lead medium to large infrastructure projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, operational procedures, and standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design scalable and production-ready infrastructure solutions.
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to enterprise UNIX and cloud environments.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for UNIX technologies and enterprise infrastructure.

Monitoring & Security

  • Perform system performance tuning, monitoring, and capacity planning.
  • Support security hardening initiatives and event monitoring platforms.
  • Utilize monitoring and management tools such as Opsview, SolarWinds, and NMON.
  • Support Forcepoint solutions including DLP, Web, and Email security components.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting UNIX-based operating systems in enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with IBM AIX, Solaris, and Linux administration.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure automation.
  • Strong scripting and programming experience with UNIX shell scripting, Perl, and Python.
