Staff Software Development Engineer - Automation

Position Summary The Staff Automation Engineer is a technical leader within the Automation Center of Excellence, responsible for delivering scalable, enterprise-grade automations using Automation Anywhere A360, UiPath, Power Automate and Agent Process Automation (APA). This role leads end-to-end automation execution, spanning process analysis, solution architecture, development, testing, deployment, and hypercare. The engineer brings deep expertise in Automation Anywhere platform capabilities, along with strong Python and API integration skills to enable intelligent and agentic automation patterns. Working closely with business and technology stakeholders, the role translates complex requirements into secure, reusable, and high-impact automation solutions. The position also provides technical leadership through solution design, adherence to enterprise standards, and mentoring of junior engineers. Success in this role requires strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and effective communication across diverse enterprise teams.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 8 years of working experience in IT, including enterprise application support/integration Minimum 5 years of hands-on process automation/RPA delivery experience (analysis, build, test, deploy, hypercare) Minimum 5 years of hands-on Automation Anywhere experience (A360) and/or UiPath or Power Automate as a senior/lead developer within an enterprise Automation CoE. Deep experience with Automation Anywhere A360 (Control Room, device pools/bot runners, queues, credentials/locker, packages, bot lifecycle, AARI as applicable), UiPath (Studio, Orchestrator, Action Center, and Agentic Features), Power Automate. Experience designing and implementing agentic automation / Agent Process Automation (APA) patterns (e.g., human-in-the-loop, tool/function calling, prompt/version control, evaluation/monitoring, and safe-guardrails) Python/Pythonic skills: ability to write clean, testable Python (packages, virtual environments, logging, exception handling) and integrate Python and APIs into automation solutions Experience with Process Analysis, Design, Implementation and System Testing Strong technical experience in architecting and building end-to-end solutions Experience with Business and Technical requirements Strong understanding of XML and XSD structures Understanding and building custom APIs Experience leading projects end-to-end including UAT & hyper care Effective written and oral communication skills Solid Problem-Solving and Analytics skills to understand complex requirements, define advanced technical/functional solutions, troubleshoot issues, and identify fixes Demonstrated desire for continuous improvement and learning Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse set of clients and vendors across multiple disciplines Proficient in analyzing complex systems (applications/data structures) and their associated relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

Current Automation Anywhere certifications (A360 Advanced/Master as applicable) and/or Control Room administration experience, and/or UiPath Automation Developer Professional or Automation Solution Architect Professional and/or Power Automate(Power Automate RPA Developer Associate or Power Platform Solution Architect Expert) Hands-on experience in IQ Bot /Meta Bot / Task Bot Experience with GenAI/LLM integrations for automation (e.g., document understanding, classification/extraction, copilots/assistants) and operationalizing them responsibly Python ecosystem familiarity (requests, pandas, pytest) and CI/CD practices for automation code (source control, pipelines, code reviews) Technically Proficient in both Windows and Linux server operating systems Strong work experience in any of the following technologies: HTML/Java/Perl/JavaScript/SQL Server database/Web Services/APIs Familiarity with Data Modeling, Data Mining (using industry standard tools) Data visualization skills using PowerBI or other package Familiarity with process mapping/mining tools Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM), Retail Pharmacy and/or Healthcare experience Education• Bachelor’s degree in a technical or information management field or related technical experience required Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $118,450.00 - $236,900.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
