Role Description The Head of Communications & Advocacy is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Phoenix Area. This role leads the development and execution of the organization’s communications and advocacy strategy to strengthen visibility, community engagement, and impact. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and managing content for digital and print channels, overseeing media relations, and ensuring consistent messaging across all outreach activities. The individual will coordinate advocacy campaigns, build relationships with partners and community stakeholders, and represent the organization at events, meetings, and public forums. The role also involves managing communication calendars, monitoring performance metrics, guiding staff or volunteers involved in communications, and preparing reports for leadership and key partners.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, or advocacy, preferably in the nonprofit or social impact sector.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences and formats.
  • Experience in digital communications, including social media management, email campaigns, and basic content management systems.
  • Proven ability to design, coordinate, and evaluate advocacy or public-awareness campaigns.
  • Comfort working with media, community partners, and stakeholders; experience in public speaking or presenting is beneficial.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven environment and build inclusive, respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Policy, Nonprofit Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with issues affecting orphaned and vulnerable children, social services, or international development is a plus.
  • Willingness to work on-site in the Greater Phoenix Area and occasionally outside standard business hours for events or urgent needs.
