Detroit, Michigan, US

. This role is pivotal in driving the discovery and development of novel chemical processes and products that address critical industry challenges. You will have the opportunity to lead complex research projects, mentor a team of talented chemists, and significantly impact the company's technological roadmap. Responsibilities: Lead and conduct cutting-edge research in synthetic organic chemistry, catalysis, or materials chemistry, depending on specialization. Design and execute multi-step synthesis of complex organic molecules and polymers. Develop and optimize novel catalytic systems and reaction methodologies. Characterize synthesized compounds using a range of analytical techniques, including NMR, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC, GC, and IR. Investigate reaction mechanisms and kinetics to improve process efficiency and selectivity. Collaborate with engineers and formulation scientists to scale up chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial production. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior research chemists and technicians. Author invention disclosures, patent applications, and peer-reviewed publications. Present research findings to internal stakeholders and at external scientific conferences. Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and environmental policies within the laboratory. Stay current with the latest scientific literature and emerging trends in chemistry. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or a related chemical discipline. Minimum of 7 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in chemical research and development. Demonstrated expertise in synthetic methodologies, reaction optimization, and process development. Strong analytical skills with extensive experience in spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. Proven track record of successful project leadership and delivery of innovative chemical solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts. Experience with computational chemistry tools is a plus. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to scientific challenges.
