Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Retrospective CDI Specialist to support a Vizient improvement initiative. This contract-only role focuses on retrospective DRG validation, compliant query generation, and clinical documentation accuracy. The ideal candidate will have strong CDI expertise, be comfortable working independently in a high-volume environment, and demonstrate proficiency in clinical validation and denial prevention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform retrospective CDI reviews with a focus on DRG validation
  • Review accounts assigned through work queues by CDI leadership
  • Validate DRGs to ensure accurate coding and documentation compliance
  • Compose, edit, send, and follow up on physician queries using compliant templates
  • Ensure adherence to AHIMA/ACDIS query guidelines
  • Collaborate with leadership to support accurate reporting and project outcomes
  • Meet productivity expectations (8–10 DRG validations per day, subject to change)

Qualifications

  • Active CDI certification required
  • Active RN license (BSN required; Compact RN license required)
  • 3–5 years of CDI experience
  • 1–2+ years of Second Level Review (SLR) experience
  • Strong experience with clinical validation denials and appeal support
  • Hands-on experience with Vizient metrics and outlier analysis
  • Experience reviewing mortality cases with strong SOI/ROM knowledge
  • Prior CDI contract experience preferred
  • Experience in large acute care settings (500+ beds, Level 1 Trauma/Teaching Hospital, ICU exposure)
  • Strong understanding of compliant query practices
  • Ability to quickly adapt and work independently Additional Details
