We are now expanding our overnight operations team and are looking for a talented Media Engineer II to join our night shift crew.

Position Overview

arenaflex is hiring a Media Engineer II (Back Night Shift) to support our 24/7 broadcast and content distribution operations. This full-time role runs from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM and is critical to maintaining the uptime, quality, and reliability of our live and on-demand media services during overnight hours. The successful candidate will serve as a key escalation point for technical issues affecting production, broadcast, and content delivery across multiple platforms.

As a Media Engineer II, you will work at the fascinating intersection of traditional broadcast engineering and modern cloud-native media technologies. You will be responsible for sustaining live production environments, troubleshooting complex signal flow issues, performing preventative maintenance, and contributing to system integration projects. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer with hands-on broadcast experience who is ready to take the next step in their career within a layered, supportive engineering model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve incidents affecting production, broadcast, and content distribution across multiple arenaflex networks, including system outages, equipment failures, and complex technical issues.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities necessary to resolve common, specialized, and advanced problems affecting media infrastructure.
  • Utilize system health and performance monitoring platforms to identify, troubleshoot, and remediate service-impacting issues proactively.
  • Install software patches, updates, and firmware upgrades to maintain system integrity and prevent future service interruptions.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot live audio/video signals within traditional SDI and IP-based SMPTE ST 2110 essence stream routing environments.
  • Investigate and resolve issues within cloud platforms, including AWS-based services such as S3, Glacier, EC2, and related media storage and compute offerings.
  • Manage third-party service providers by enforcing agreed-upon scopes of work within master service agreements, including contractors, maintenance vendors, and integration partners.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate technical staff; coordinate training initiatives; address performance gaps; and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Identify and procure equipment, supplies, and materials for media technology systems within established budget guidelines.
  • Develop long-range plans for future media technology needs, including capital improvement projects that enhance production and distribution capabilities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures regarding technology facilities, with a focus on maximizing integration to meet business and creative objectives.
  • Provide operational support for all shifts related to operating, maintaining, and programming audio and video production/distribution systems across the enterprise.
  • Perform hardware and software upgrades under the supervision of senior engineers or team leads.
  • Coordinate and execute preventative maintenance on all broadcast systems and equipment, including distribution systems, switchers, consoles, playout servers, cameras, robotics, electromechanical equipment, automation systems, and radio facilities.
  • Participate in complex engineering projects as directed by senior engineers and technical leadership.
  • Review, maintain, and contribute to system and workflow documentation to ensure operational continuity.
  • Participate in training and professional development objectives, including conducting peer training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support business objectives and operational excellence.
  • Act as a respected technical influencer capable of building consensus at the project, program, and organizational levels while preserving strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with minimal supervision, delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness, sound judgment, and creative problem-solving skills, with a relentless drive to make an impact.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline, or equivalent practical work experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience ensuring efficient sustainment, uptime, and overall stability of live media production and distribution environments.
  • IP-Based Broadcast Equipment: Demonstrated troubleshooting and support experience with routers, switchers, audio consoles, signal processors, encoder/decoder systems, video scalers, and playback platforms.
  • Studio Technology: Hands-on familiarity with video walls, cameras, VR/AR set technology, image processing systems, touchscreens, and lighting infrastructure.
  • File-Based Workflows: Working knowledge of Media Asset Management (MAM) systems, whether cloud-based or on-premises, including storage, compute, encoding, and distribution components.
  • Production Control Systems: Experience with automation platforms such as Imagine Communications, Grass Valley, Evertz, Ross, Adobe, Vizrt, Dalet, Riedel trunking, Lawo, and Calrec audio systems.
  • Transmission Systems: Understanding of RF, satellite distribution, and fiber-based delivery systems.
  • Cloud Platforms: Demonstrated troubleshooting and sustainment experience with AWS foundational services, including S3/Glacier storage and EC2 compute offerings.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work on elevated structures and building rooftops, operate aerial lift platforms, and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Technical Documentation: Proficiency in creating, reading, and interpreting AutoCAD drawings and other technical documentation tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with on-premises and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms and current technology offerings.
  • Familiarity with SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production or streaming environments.
  • Understanding of compression techniques including MPEG-2, MPEG-4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, and JPEG XS.
  • Experience with Evertz software control systems, including frame control via VistaLink or Magnum, EQX/EXE routers, and monitoring platforms such as VLPRO, SDVN, VUE, and MVP.
  • Knowledge of Nielsen (NACAT), VANC equipment, Dolby audio systems, and other related broadcast technologies.
  • Experience with integrated receiver decoders (IRDs), core devices, edge devices, video and audio timing systems, and media file formats.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Beyond technical knowledge, the ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional analytical thinking, a methodical approach to troubleshooting, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will be collaborating with cross-functional teams, documenting incidents, and providing clear status updates during critical situations. A genuine curiosity about emerging media technologies, combined with a commitment to continuous improvement, will help you thrive in this role. We also value emotional intelligence, adaptability, and the ability to mentor junior team members as you grow within the organization.

Career Growth and Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, your professional development is a top priority. Media Engineer II is part of a clearly defined career progression path, with opportunities to advance into senior engineering roles, subject matter expert positions, and technical leadership tracks. We invest heavily in our people through structured training programs, vendor certifications (AWS, Evertz, Grass Valley, and more), conference attendance, and tuition reimbursement for relevant continuing education. You will gain exposure to a wide array of technologies across traditional broadcast, IP-based media, and cloud-native workflows, making this an exceptional environment for engineers who want to broaden their skill sets and build long-term careers in media technology.

arenaflex fosters a collaborative, inclusive, and innovation-driven culture where every team member's contribution is valued. Our engineering teams operate with a strong sense of ownership, mutual respect, and shared accountability. Although this position is based on a night shift schedule, you will not be working in isolation — our overnight engineers are tightly integrated with the broader operations team and supported by senior engineers on call. We also offer flexible scheduling arrangements where operationally feasible, and we prioritize work-life balance for all employees.

Our facilities are state-of-the-art, featuring modern broadcast centers, fully equipped studios, advanced control rooms, and dedicated labs for testing and integration work. The physical work environment may occasionally require you to access rooftops, mechanical rooms, and equipment racks in elevated locations, so comfort with that type of work is important.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

arenaflex offers a competitive compensation package designed to attract and retain top talent in the media technology industry. While specific compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, the role includes a comprehensive benefits package that typically features:

  • Competitive base salary with periodic performance-based reviews
