THE JOB We are recruiting for a Climate Planning Advisor to join OSE’s Climate Justice team. We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated success advancing racial equity and climate/environmental justice, and who have experience working across the public and private sectors. You will use your Climate and Environmental Justice expertise, project management skills, strong interpersonal skills, and diplomacy and political savvy to continue the City’s work to address climate change. Your top priorities will be

  • Managing the Climate Action Planning Process, including updating the Climate Action Plan (CAP) by the first quarter of 2027.
  • Lead internal and external engagement, including leading and facilitating the City’s CAP workgroup, standing up a Director’s forum, and convening regional Climate Justice partners.
  • Serve as OSE’s Council Liaison for the first six to eight months, building relationships, strategically advocating and informing the staff and Council members about OSE’s work, impact, and mission, and gathering information regarding emerging issues. To be successful, you are committed to

  • Strategic Climate and Environmental Justice project/program experience using an equity lens
  • Managed complex projects/programs/plans, collaborating with and moving the work of internal teams and external partners forward, communicating updates, and tracking and reporting progress
  • Listened, communicated clearly using a variety of formats – briefings, presentations, written materials accessible to all audiences
  • Facilitated and led groups without formal authority
  • Engaged with and worked collaboratively with frontline communities, distilling their diverse opinions and perspectives to share with City leadership and inform planning
  • Created and analyzed policy
  • Demonstrated professional accountability and attention to detail
  • Used data to understand the health impact of City decisions, codes, and rules
  • A background in land-use policy, zoning, or urban planning A successful applicant will have a professional career that reflects a commitment to addressing climate change in equitable and economically feasible ways.   • Diplomacy and political savvy This job is classified as a Strategic Advisor 2, General Government, and the salary range is $56.57-$84.88. Our target range for this position is $69.00-$75.00. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management.
