We are looking for a remote full-time Controller with a passion for technology and entrepreneurial environments, who wants to help start-up companies thrive during their growth journey. In this client serving role, you will work with exciting and innovative growth technology companies throughout Canada to provide financial leadership and become a trusted advisor to enable them to grow and achieve their objectives. Since we are a client serving, fully remote company, we’re looking for a high energy, dynamic, forward thinker who is comfortable working with different clients. You must also have a positive attitude and bring strong business, financial, and leadership acumen. What will you do? Provide overall leadership for the finance function at our clients, and ultimately own all things financial reporting. Develop and implement financial reporting policies, in accordance with GAAP. Strong knowledge of GAAP revenue recognition. Oversee accounting staff and review month-end close reconciliations. Payroll management, including potentially processing payroll. Prepare monthly financial statements and assist clients in analyzing financial results. Create financial budgets and perform monthly budget versus actual variance analysis. Design and implement effective internal controls and processes, utilizing technology where it makes sense to do so. Complete required investor reporting and assist clients with board meeting preparations. Lead the company through any 3rd party audits or reviews which are required. Oversee the treasury function and cash flow management/forecasting. Manage and ensure tax compliance. In many cases this will involve working with a 3rd party provider who will prepare the filings. Assist with the administration of stock option plans and cap table management. Assist with various ad-hoc client requests. Ideally, you have: A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years of experience as an Accounting Manager or above; prior public accounting experience a plus. Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent). Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including fluency in English. Experience working with venture backed tech start-ups is an asset. Excellent time management and self-management skills. Experience using QuickBooks Online and/or Xero and proficient in using Excel. General tax knowledge, including HST. Solid problem solving and analysis skills. High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information. Ability to exercise good judgement, show initiative and be proactive. Ability to build strong connections with clients and team members. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
