About the position McGraw Hill Education, a leading provider of digital and print educational materials, is seeking a creative, innovative, and strategic Instructional Designer for its science programs. This role is part of a collaborative team of Instructional Designers who work closely with content, product management, project management, and creative media teams. The Instructional Designer will create robust digital tools, curriculum, and learning solutions in various formats for millions of educators and students. This position requires expertise in digital content and curriculum, and the responsibility for assembling high-quality content based on specific product requirements for science programs. This is a remote Project Status Worker (PSW) position with an end date of 05/30/2027, open to applicants authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop digital curriculum assets (e-books, assessments, simulations, and interactive content) using instructional models such as Understanding by Design (UBD) to ensure effective, engaging learning experiences.
  • Review and refine content storyboards, authoring guidelines, and metadata tagging to maintain instructional effectiveness and alignment with product requirements.
  • Lead digital content workflows through all development stages, collaborating with product management and content teams to optimize curriculum structure and delivery.
  • Manage vendor relationships by facilitating launch and status meetings, supporting content quality assurance, and addressing vendor questions.
  • Conduct user testing and analyze feedback to continuously enhance digital learning experiences and recommend platform improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility (WCAG) and usability standards across all digital content.
  • Mentor and support Associate Instructional Designers on content development tools, best practices, and technical troubleshooting within authoring platforms.
  • Contribute to cross-functional teams to meet product goals, project schedules, and complete digital development tasks including concept mapping and digital editing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Education Technology or related field required.
  • 2 - 5 years’ experience working in digital content development that includes teaching and learning materials.
  • Proficiency in authoring tools and LMS platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines and budgets.
  • Experience using data and user research insights to refine learning experiences.
  • Strong ability to work with cross-functional teams and mentor junior designers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous teaching experience in science (preferred).
