Lead Research Scientist - Bioinformatics

Our client, a cutting-edge biotechnology firm located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US , is seeking an experienced Lead Research Scientist specializing in Bioinformatics to drive their groundbreaking research and development initiatives. This role offers a hybrid work model, blending on-site collaboration with remote flexibility. The Lead Research Scientist will be responsible for designing and executing complex computational analyses of large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. You will develop and implement novel bioinformatics pipelines, algorithms, and statistical models to identify biological insights, discover biomarkers, and support drug discovery efforts. This position requires a strong command of bioinformatics tools, programming languages, and statistical methods, coupled with a deep understanding of molecular biology and genetics. You will lead a team of bioinformaticians, mentor junior researchers, and collaborate closely with molecular biologists, chemists, and clinicians to advance research projects. The ability to translate complex data into actionable scientific conclusions is paramount. Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and implementation of bioinformatics strategies and pipelines. Analyze large-scale omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) using advanced computational and statistical methods. Develop and apply novel algorithms and machine learning models for biological data analysis. Identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets through in-depth data interpretation. Collaborate with experimental biologists and other researchers to interpret findings and design future experiments. Mentor and guide junior bioinformaticians and research associates. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioinformatics, computational biology, and relevant scientific fields. Present research findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences. Manage project timelines and deliverables for bioinformatics components of research projects. Contribute to grant writing and manuscript preparation. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Genetics, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in bioinformatics or computational biology research. Proven track record of leading research projects and managing scientific teams. Expertise in analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and/or Perl. Strong experience with bioinformatics databases, tools, and software packages. Solid understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning techniques. Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment. Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.
