About the position The Manager of Finance - Statutory Reporting at Transamerica will play a crucial role in overseeing a team dedicated to statutory reporting for investments. This position is integral to ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, particularly in the areas of quarterly investment schedules and disclosures, annual audits, and the management of interest maintenance reserves (IMR) and asset valuation reserves (AVR). The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing new accounting and disclosure guidance, identifying potential accounting issues or errors, and escalating them appropriately. In addition to technical oversight, the role involves completing or reviewing issue papers and control memos, as well as designing and implementing process and control improvements within the area of expertise. The manager will also be tasked with managing the activities of the assigned team, which may include supervisors and individual contributors, adapting departmental plans to address resource and operational challenges. While the role primarily operates within its own function, it also requires participation in cross-functional initiatives, necessitating effective communication of directives from senior management. A key aspect of this position is the development of team members through one-on-one meetings focused on performance and career development. The manager will influence and lead the team in alignment with the department's strategy and values, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment that supports the overall mission of Transamerica.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of Statutory reporting for investments, including quarterly investment schedules and disclosures.

  • Manage annual audits related to statutory reporting.

,

  • Oversee interest maintenance reserve (IMR) and asset valuation reserve (AVR).

  • Implement relevant new accounting and disclosure guidance.

  • Identify potential accounting issues or errors and escalate appropriately.

  • Complete or review issue papers and control memos.

  • Review, design, and implement process and control improvements in area of expertise.

  • Manage activities of assigned team including supervisors and/or individual contributors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience.

,

  • Eight years of accounting/finance experience including three years of supervisory/management experience.

,

  • Strong people management skills.

,

  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, to diverse audiences.

,

  • Organizational and prioritization skills.

,

  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, Excel, and financial business systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of investments.

  • Experience with Statutory reporting and disclosure requirements.

  • Familiarity with Clearwater Analytics investment accounting & reporting system.
